Out of an abundance of caution, we have reduced our hours in support of efforts to lessen the spread of COVID-19. Visit for the full statement.

Monday-Saturday 10 AM-5:00 PM (starting February 5th)

The Carnegie Center for Art and History, a branch of the Floyd County Library, is open to the public with limited access to gallery spaces to observe safe social distancing in accordance with CDC recommendations and Floyd County Library policies.

In anticipation of your visit, please be prepared for the following to ensure the safety of patrons and staff:

  • Masks will be required, and social distancing enforced.
  • There will be limits on the number of people allowed in the Carnegie’s ongoing exhibitions, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad and Remembered: The Life of Lucy Higgs NicholsEntry will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Both the main galleries, featuring the special exhibition G.W. Morrison at 200 and the Sally Newkirk Gallery, featuring A Reason to Remember: A Virtual New Albany Field Trip will be accessible.
  • Free art kits for children and adults will be available and may correspond with virtual classes. (While supplies last.)
  • All programs will continue to be offered virtually until further notice.
  • Should the main galleries exceed 50% capacity, you may be asked to wait.

Please call or email for virtual options) Group tours are available for current art exhibitions, as well as the ongoing history exhibitions Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad and Remembered: The Life of Lucy Higgs Nichols. Tours are available Tuesday-Friday 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM and on Saturdays with limited availability.

The Carnegie Center for Art and History is excited to offer a customizable experience for children in grades Pre-K through 12. Schools, non-profits community organizations, and homeschool groups in Southern Indiana  may choose from FREE on-site or off-site programs in both art and history.
